I have been reading a book called the Book Thief by Markus Zusak. The story The Book Thief is full of conflict. One of the conflicts in the Book Thief is when the protagonist, Max left the Hubermanns. Max wants to come back, but he is also the antagonist because he knows if he comes back he the will be putting the Hubermanns in danger, because Max is Jewish and in Nazi Germany it is not safe to be a Jew. I think Max will not come back. He likes the Hubermanns so he would not want to put them in danger. So in the story the type of conflict is internal character vs. self because Max is the protagonist and the antagonist. Max did not get what he wanted but he did do what he thought was right. So it would be a lose-win situation.

Another conflict in the story is when the protagonist, Hans has to go to war. Hans does not want to go to war and leave his family. The antagonist is the Nazi government because they will force him to go because they need more men to fight. I think Hans will go because if he does not go he will be severely punished. Hans has been punished before and he would not want to be punished again. I know I would not want to be punished. In the story Hans did go to war. This type of conflict is external character vs. society because Germany society is forcing Hans to be in the war. Hans did not get what he wanted and the Nazis did. So it would be a lose-win situation.

The U.S. Army
One more conflict in the Book Thief is when the protagonist, Rudy wants to find his father after he went to war. Liesel, the antagonist, will not let him keep going because she is tired and could not go farther. She wants him to go home with her. I think Rudy will go with her because he would not want to go alone in the forest. I know I would not want to go by myself. In the story Rudy did go with Liesel. This type of conflict is external character vs. character because both the of characters, Liesel and Rudy, are having a conflict with each other. Rudy did not get what he wanted and Liesel did. So it was a lose-win situation.

Ed,
I like how you stated everything, so the reader knows what is what. I also like how you put a lot of questions for others so you can continue the conversation. Do you want Max to come back? Why? Hope to see you at my blog soon at kassoneil.wordpress.com,
Kassie
Hi Ed
I can tell by your writing you are very interested in the characters. Although this book is fictional, it is probably based on somebody very real. Their lives were not their own. They had so much conflict living within certain rules. We are very fortunate to not have to live like now.

Hm, very interesting. I just read The Book Thief, and I believe the conflict is Hitler: There are many little conflicts throughout, but the main big one is Hitler and the Nazis. Liesel becomes to hate Hitler after she realizes her father was a communist, and that Hitler had something to do with the disappearance off her father and mother. Hitler caused Hans and Rudy’s father to both have to go to war. Hitler forbid books that he didn’t approve. Hitler didn’t like Jew’s, and the Hubermann’s were hiding one.
That’s for my book report, but there really are loads of conflict. Nice views!
